Aging switchgear modernised through retrofit

SZM has developed a retrofit solution for an old Concordia/Sprecher circuit breaker and used it to modernise a substation in Southern Germany.

To modernise an aging MV switchgear, SZM has developed a retrofit solution for an old circuit breaker from Concordia/Sprecher. This is being replaced by a state-of-the-art vacuum circuit-breaker type 3AH5284-2 from Siemens and has been installed in the Weissenau substation in the Ravensburg district (Upper Swabia, Southern Germany).

The German network operator Netze BW (Baden-Württemberg) can now successfully complete the modernisation of the Weissenau substation. In substations like the one in Ravensburg Weissenau, electricity is transformed from high voltage (110 kV) to medium voltage (20 kV). This level forms the backbone of the regional supply. The high-voltage grid of Netze BW connects a total of over 330 such substations. Netze BW in Stuttgart is the largest grid company for electricity, gas and water in Baden-Württemberg and a wholly owned subsidiary of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG; it stands for secure, reliable, efficient and cost-effective supply as well as customer-oriented grid service.

SZM is one of the world's leading manufacturers in the retrofitting of low and medium voltage switchgear. With over 250 modernisation solutions for retrofitting old systems, we constantly develop the best solution for retrofitting the customer's switchgear in terms of technical feasibility and cost-effectiveness - irrespective of the make - and thus extend its service life.

Are you interested in retrofitting your old switchgear as a viable alternative to buying a new one? Do you want to give new life to an ageing switchgear by updating it, improving its efficiency and extending its service life by a good 20 to 30 years (depending on the load)? Then send us an e-mail to retrofit(at)szm-gmbh.de.
