Sometimes small things have big effects. In the Wilthener Straße industrial park in Bautzen, for example, a circuit breaker in a medium-voltage switchgear no longer worked. In a worst-case scenario, this would have led to a significant and prolonged power shutdown.
Circuit breaker failed to switch
The problem was that once the breaker was switched off, no one could be sure that it could be switched on again. And switching off can happen, because a circuit breaker protects against overloads and short circuits and, in the event of a fault, automatically disconnects adjacent network sections to protect against further overloads. These are then disconnected from the power supply. If the switch had not been quickly switched on again, this would have meant a longer blackout in Bautzen (Upper Lusatia, Germany) for such important industrial park users as Vodafone, the Federal Police or Radio Lausitz.
SZM's technical service repaired the Circuit breaker
The switchgear specialist SZM from Bad Muskau discovered the problem: the switch had simply become jammed. It was repaired during a maintenance appointment. Now it can be switched on and off smoothly again. Moreover, a malfunction no longer has to mean something bad.
Ralf Eisenrigler from Palmira Industrial Management GmbH - Manager of Bautzen Industrial park:
"We came across SZM in Internet and were surprised on site by the technical competence and constructiveness with which the company approached the issue. And we are glad that SZM Service fixed the switch for us and we saved ourselves the expense of buying a new switchgear instead."
