SZM switchgear for usage in containers

Companies in Lausitz always develop innovative energy plants - container / SZM supplies 24 exceptionally compact SAM switchgears (12 kV).

SchaltanlagenZubehör Bad Muskau (SZM) has equipped innovative energy plant containers with switchgear for an international project. The containers were created in close cooperation between three companies from the German region Lausitz.

The LEAG affiliate MCR Engineering Lausitz GmbH (MCR), Actemium BEA and SZM from Bad Muskau worked closely together. MCR, which has also been successful in third-party customer business as a LEAG service since mid-2019 and has been operating as an independent GmbH since the end of 2021, set about developing and building the transformer and switchgear containers required for this. MCR built the steel containers, including insulation, on a turnkey basis. The containers, which were manufactured by MCR in LEAG's main workshop in Schwarze Pumpe, are necessary to protect the sensitive electrical components from dust, dirt, moisture and adverse weather conditions.

Actemium BEA, a specialist for innovative solutions in the field of electrical, automation and IT technology, planned the overall solution and installed energy system technology such as transformers and switchgear in the containers. In this project, SZM took on the part of the medium voltage.

SZM, specialist for switchgear and switchgear components in the Saxon spa town of Bad Muskau, not only develops modernisation solutions (retrofits) for ageing switchgear, but also manufactures new switchgear. With its in-house SAM switchgear, SZM had exactly the right solution for the 24 special containers, because the SAM - especially in the fixed-mounted version at the rated voltage of 12 kV - is particularly compact. Its overall depth is one fifth less than that of conventional air-insulated medium-voltage switchgear.

This was the first joint project for the three companies Actemium, MCR Engineering Lausitz and SZM, with a large share of the value added coming from Lausitz. This initial order is intended to be the prelude to many more joint projects and to make a lively contribution to structural change, keeping jobs in the region and, if possible, even expanding it.

Actemium and MCE Engineering had already previously built and assembled containers for the power supply of feed pumps for the extraction of green geothermal energy in a pilot project. For the pilot project, a system was developed, built and equipped consisting of two individual containers in steel construction with switchgear technology and transformers. It can reliably supply the drilling and pumping technology with electricity even under adverse weather conditions.
