In electrical and electronic components like transformers in the power supply sector PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) were in use for many decades worldwide. Due to their low electrical conductivity combined with their flame resistance, PCBs were regarded as the ideal insulation liquid.

However, PCBs have negative effects on human health and the environment. So their use is banned worldwide. In some cases, transformer containing PBCs still can be in use.

At an oil check we can test the oil from aged transformers as for PCBs.
