Koopmann Energy Days: Retrofit Solutions in Focus

Well-attended SZM exhibition stand showcasing air-insulated switchgear, modernization solutions and switchgear extensions.

The Koopmann Energy Days 2026 are now behind us. For SZM, the event marked our first appearance with our own exhibition stand at the industry gathering in Cloppenburg.

Over the two event days (10–11 June 2026), numerous industry professionals took the opportunity to learn more about our medium-voltage switchgear solutions and exchange ideas with our team. Particular attention was paid to retrofit solutions for existing installations, replacement switchgear panels, spare panels and medium-voltage switchgear extensions.

Many utilities, municipal energy providers and industrial companies are facing the challenge of adapting their existing installations to meet growing requirements. However, a complete replacement is not always necessary. In many cases, modernization and extension projects provide a cost-effective and future-oriented alternative, allowing proven equipment to remain in reliable operation.

Several factors make these solutions attractive for plant operators. Retrofit projects and targeted extensions can often significantly reduce outage and downtime periods, as large parts of the existing switchgear infrastructure can remain in service. At the same time, sustainability is becoming increasingly important. Reusing functional equipment helps conserve resources and reduces material consumption compared to a complete replacement of the installation.

At our exhibition stand, we presented a practical retrofit solution and demonstrated how existing medium-voltage switchgear can be upgraded with modern technology. The many discussions with visitors once again confirmed that preserving and enhancing existing installations is a key topic for many operators.

We also showcased our in-house air-insulated switchgear family, SAM. This included the SAM12 (12 kV), which offers a particularly compact panel depth when equipped with a C3 compact switch-disconnector—approximately 20 percent shorter than comparable solutions. This makes it especially suitable for applications where space is limited, such as containerized substations. In addition, we presented the SAM24 (24 kV), which is based on the proven ABB (Calor Emag) switchgear concept.

We would like to thank all visitors and customers for the valuable discussions and the strong interest in our solutions.
