SchaltanlagenZubehör Bad Muskau GmbH (SZM) has once again been certified by the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the Woodworking and Metalworking Industries (BGHM) for its systematic approach to occupational health and safety. During an assessment on 8 September 2026, the BGHM confirmed that SZM meets the requirements for the “Sicher mit System” quality seal. The new certificate is valid until 30 September 2029.
The certification assesses how a company manages occupational health and safety in its day-to-day operations. It is not simply about complying with individual regulations. Among other things, the BGHM examines how hazards are identified and prevented, how employees are involved, and how the company deals with safety issues and mistakes. SZM’s assessment was carried out in accordance with the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) principles for auditing occupational health and safety management systems.
SZM is therefore one of currently 311 companies across Germany certified with the “Sicher mit System” quality seal.
For SZM, the renewed certification confirms the company’s ongoing commitment to safety and health at work.
“Occupational health and safety is not a one-off project for us; it is part of our daily work. That our system has once again been confirmed by the statutory accident insurance institution is therefore a great source of satisfaction for us,” says SZM Managing Director Maik Domel.
SZM’s consistent approach to the issue is also reflected in the company receiving the “Schlauer Fuchs – Kultur der Prävention” (“Smart Fox – Culture of Prevention”) safety award in 2024. The BGHM uses the award to recognize companies that go beyond individual measures and demonstrate a sustained, long-term commitment to improving safety and health at work. At SZM, particular recognition was given to the company’s overall approach, which combines leadership, communication, employee participation, a positive error culture, the working environment, and safety and health. In addition to the trophy, the award included a cash prize.
SZM’s accident record also underlines the importance the company places on safety: SZM has currently gone 1,134 days without a workplace accident or a so-called near miss. The figure is continuously documented.
“Our aim is to identify hazards as early as possible and prevent accidents from happening in the first place. To achieve this, everyone in the company needs to play their part and remain vigilant,” says Maik Domel.
Systematic occupational health and safety is also important to SZM’s customers. Particularly for larger projects and major clients, there is an expectation that partners have effective occupational health and safety management systems in place and can provide the relevant documentation. With its renewed certification, SZM can provide this evidence for another three years.
